Out-of-hospital birth
Birth centers I support
Freestanding birth centers across Los Angeles and Orange County — each with its own philosophy and midwifery team.

Kindred Space LA
Los Angeles, CA
Kindred Space LA is South LA's only Black-owned freestanding birth center — founded in 2020 by Licensed Midwives Kimberly Durdin and Allegra Hill as a direct response to the Black maternal health crisis. Prenatal visits, in-center and water births, postpartum support, and doula training all happen under one roof, with sliding-scale fees that serve Medi-Cal and private-pay families alike. When your care is built on the principle that every mama deserves to be seen and heard, that changes the energy in the room.

Mind Body Birth Wellness and Birthing Center
Los Angeles, CA
Mind Body Birth sits in the heart of DTLA and has been led by Licensed Midwife Faith Freeman CPM, LM since 2006 — that kind of tenure means she has seen a lot, and she uses every bit of it. Private birthing suites with deep soaking tubs, genuine shared decision-making, and a stated commitment to care for all bodies. They also offer holistic well-person visits, fertility support, and IUI services, which matters if you're thinking beyond birth.

Moxie Birth
South Pasadena, CA
Moxie Birth in South Pasadena holds a distinction you won't find anywhere else in LA: it's the only freestanding birth center founded by both a licensed midwife AND an OB/GYN. That integrated out-of-hospital model means you get the calm, home-like setting — private suites, deep-soaking tubs — with a clinical depth that's genuinely reassuring. Full prenatal care through your six-week postpartum visit, plus gender-affirming and LGBTQ+ family services throughout. It's the kind of place where you're not choosing between safety and comfort. You get both.

South Bay Birth
Redondo Beach, CA
South Bay Birth Center in Redondo Beach is my home turf and most recommended birthing center — and for good reason. Led by Laura Burnett, LM,CPM, this midwifery practice offers birth center births, planned home births, water birth, full prenatal care, well-person gynecology, preconception and fertility counseling, and postpartum support. If you're in the South Bay and weighing your out-of-hospital options, this is the first conversation I'd recommend you have.

South Coast Midwifery & Women's Health Care
Irvine, CA
South Coast Midwifery in Irvine has been doing this longer than almost anyone in SoCal — founded by Lorri Walker, RN, NP, CNM in the mid-1990s and still the only standalone birth center in the region accredited by CABC for VBAC. That's not a footnote; that's a meaningful option for families who've had a cesarean and are planning for something different this time. Birth center and home births, water birth, prenatal and postpartum, well-woman care, chiropractic, and childbirth education — all in one place, with decades of evidence behind every room.
