About the area
Supporting births in Manhattan Beach
Manhattan Beach is one of my most common service area calls. The South Bay hospital trio (Little Company of Mary, Torrance Memorial, and Kaiser South Bay) is within easy reach, and I have deep familiarity with all three.
Here's what I'd want you to know about each:
- Providence Little Company of Mary (LCoM) in Torrance: 35-bed Level III NICU, strong midwifery culture within the Providence system. Many of my clients who want a community-hospital feel with NICU backup end up here.
- Torrance Memorial Medical Center: an affiliate of the Cedars-Sinai Health System (since 2018), with a 25-bed Level IIIB NICU. Solid reputation and a familiar team for South Bay OBs.
- Kaiser South Bay: the go-to for Kaiser members. L&D is well-regarded within the Kaiser system.
Manhattan Beach families often come to me having done a lot of research. You've been to prenatal yoga, you've read the books, and you've probably already narrowed down your hospital. I love walking that last mile with you: what your preferences actually look like in the room, what to ask your OB, how to think about the things that might not go to plan.
Postpartum support in Manhattan Beach is a very smooth logistics situation for me. I can often get to you faster than most providers.
Frequently asked
Manhattan Beach-specific questions
Which South Bay hospital do most Manhattan Beach families choose?
Honestly, it's split among LCoM, Torrance Memorial, and Kaiser South Bay depending on your insurance and your OB's privileges. LCoM gets a lot of clients who want a community-hospital feel with Level III NICU backup. Torrance Memorial draws families whose OBs are affiliated with the Cedars-Sinai system. Kaiser South Bay is the natural choice for Kaiser members. I know all three firsthand.
How quickly can you get to Manhattan Beach when I call?
Manhattan Beach is about 20 minutes from my base in Torrance. It's one of my closest service areas. On a labor call, I leave immediately. We'll go over timing, what early labor cues to watch for, and exactly when to call me. You won't be guessing when the time comes.
Do you offer postpartum doula visits in Manhattan Beach?
Yes, this is actually one of the easiest postpartum logistics for me in the whole service area. 20 minutes, door to door. If you're thinking about multiple weeks of support, Manhattan Beach is a neighborhood where scheduling is smooth.
I'm not sure whether I need a labor doula, postpartum doula, or both. How do I figure that out?
Call me and we'll figure it out together. A lot of families in Manhattan Beach start the conversation thinking they only need one and end up booking both — not because I pushed them to, but because once we talk through what those first weeks actually look like, the overlap becomes clear. No pressure. Just an honest conversation.
